I'm so sorry to hear about the furry unrest!! My cats will never get along and they only tolerate each other. Max continues to go after Speckles (God, you should hear it at 6am poor girl). I don't think he would hurt her on purpose but he does get a rush knowing that he's intimidating her and she is afraid of him. They will sleep at opposite ends of the same couch but get within sniffing distance and watch out! It's a swipathon.... I don't interfere anymore unless it gets really vocal.
