    thanks for the links!

I don't remember who, but that thread about ,"how do you clean your kitty condos" the hint about the brush, boy that sure worked great! now I don't have to vauum as much, and actually the brush picks up more fur than the vacuum
I want to get a vac with a good dust/allergen filter and good attachements too. so thanks again for the advice and links.

We just got a (MUCH NEEDED) new vacuum. It's a Eureka WhirlWind LiteSpeed bagless. It works soooo well (especially with all the dog hair...) I love it!

I've got an Oreck. I had a Dirt Devil that was my Dad's but figured it was time for a new one. I had always gotten my vacuum cleaners at tag sales.

The Oreck is lightweight and works well, but there's one drawback. It doesn't suck up the stuff in corners or sides. That's probably why they try and sell you the portable vacuum with it.

Speaking of the big, mean red machine, here's a picture of Maya Linn as I'm vacuuming my living room. All she was interested in was me retrieving her ball from under the coffee table!!

I have a canisiter Electrolux. It rocks my world. It was $1,400.00 but I got it on sale for $1000. It's amazing how much it picks up. And because it's a canister I can use it on the curtains, haul it out to the garage for the cars, it has an attachment for bare floors and upholstry. It does use bags, but they deliver them right to my door. My mom bought one when I was born and still has it. That was 32 years ago. That's the only reason I spent that kind of money but with 5 cats and 3 dogs it's a life saver.

We have a central hoover! Meaning: the motor is in the garage; it is linked with all rooms of the house by pipes in the walls. You just need to take the hose with you, look for an "contact-box" in the wall, and the hoovering starts! Almost noice-less!
Of course, you can only install this in a new-built house!

    It is SUPER!!!

I was the one who posted on how to clean cat hair from kitty condos and kitty trees. You're welcome.

I used to sell sweepers at Sears.
Please keep in mind that I don't work there any more and I have NO stake in the company sales or anything.

Panasonic and Kenmore are both good sweepers, actually when I worked there Panasonic made Kenmore sweepers.
Whatever kind you get make sure to read the fine print. If you buy a Hoover, it might say "19.5 amps per ....." but that doesn't mean it is the best. The highest you can go is 12 amps. period
My mom has had an Electrolux as long as I can remember so it is at least 27 years old.
She also has a Hoover Windtunnel Upright and a Kenmore canister. Compliments of when I worked at Sears!
I have a bagless. It is the Kenmore Destiny a replica of the Fantom.
I like it alot but the next one I buy probably will have bags.
Any questions I can try to answer best to my ability.

Staci, did you deal with the Wertheim brand at all ? We looked at Dysons but weren't that impressed by performance for the cost (will have to take my own sample of cat fur next time ). We went to a specialist vacuum shop and he promoted the Wertheim, but we got so confused we just wandered out in a daze!

Sorry Nicole, I am not familiar with that brand at all. Nor the Dyson Must be overseas equivalent?

BUT I do agree that that is a great way to see if your sweeper is going to pick up. I once had customers bring in a baggie of cat litter (don't know what kind it was my pre-catdays but very very fine) to see which one picked it up the best. I think they ended up going with the Kenmore.
So I actually bought a bag of el cheapo cat litter to use as a demo. And I think people brought in cat hair and dog hair also.
I would take a small carpet remnant and put it where it is a high traffic cat area make sure it gets good and cat hair covered then take that into the store.

Right now I have a Hoover that uses a hepa filter bag and I love it. It also has attachments so I can get into small corners. It really seems to pick up all the cat hair and litter very well. I've had it for about 2 years now. Before that I had a Eureka and it didn't have much power so it didn't pick up things very well.

I know, I know! I want a Kenmore based on the replies but they aren't sold here! I just looked at their web site and I'm drooling over the fridges and ovens too ...

That's a great idea about the carpet remnant, OR I'll just take our quilt cover after the little furbags have been lying on the bed all day

I have an Oreck too! (Mine is grey though.) I got it around 9/10 years ago, and recently, after ending a three year affair with a Dyson, I have gone back to my Oreck first love! It is the best thing ever for picking up dog and cat hair - (I first got it because of Penny, my RB German Shepherd, boy, did she lose hair!) - and I got that little canister thingy free at the time I got the main machine, I don`t use the canister so much now though, I tend to use the Dyson crevice thingy for the corners and suchlike.
As for the pets, Bob has always ran away from the Oreck when it`s running, and Ebby, well, she is ok unless it comes within around 4`of wherever she is, any closer and she does a runner!
Here is Bob curled up near it when he was a pup.

And it is on the left in this picture taken around 10 days ago, I think he may be a little too big to curl up by it now!

I have the ROOMBA! Yes the robotic vacuum cleaner. I love it. My dad sent it to us for Christmas. The cats are not afraid of it at all and it can do under the sofas and the king sized bed without a problem. Although I do use a canister to get along the walls and in the smaller places but it has saved so much time and effort. I just clear the space of cat toys...turn it on and go do something else like read or watch TV...hehehe
