That may be as far as you can clip them right now....even if it's clicking on the floor. When the nails grown out, the quicks grow too, so he may have longer quicks then normal. When you clip the nails, the quick receeds a bit, so you could try trimming just a tiny bit off every few days until you get it where you want.
I used to be afraid to clip nails too...my dad clipped Reggie's nails but he only did it every 3-4 months so they'd get really long, and the quicks were super long. Since I've been clipping them every 2 weeks or so, they are at the perfect length.
For trimming the feet...do you have a slicker brush? (preferably a pretty small one) What I do is use a small slicker brush, and brush the tops of the feet backwards...it brings up all the hair between the toes. Then just take scissors and trim it off, then also just trim around his pads a bit. We also trim up the fur on the backs of the front legs legs (from the paw to that little extra pad..not sure what it's called) and kind of from the back of the heel to the foot on the back legs.
