Perhaps not necessarily illegal, but he would be creating frustrating problems for himself by allowing such a thing. From looking at the way both of the pet stores I have worked at run, I understand and sympathize. He's got a LOT of stuff going on, he's extremely busy all the time, and it's just too much to think about one more thing to deal with. Let it go, it's nothing personal.

I have been gone all this weekend, up at our cottage, so I am trying to catch up on Pet Talk....

I am confused, if you think this pet store is so horrid why did you give the hamster back to that pet store, instead of taking it to a nicer place, and why did you buy the hamster from the (horrid) pet store. (Not ment to be offensive)

    I never bought a hamster, I bought a gerbil .

I bought him because they way he was treated, he looked so unhappy.

    picture this:

lil lone male gerbil, tilt head. in a 30 gallon tank, with pine bedding, a water dish not a bottle, no cardboard ither.

    I had to save him.

    His new home picture it:

Unsented toilet paper as bedding piled up to the rim just about. a ten gallon tank. tonz of cardboard to chew, and endless supply of fresh water in a bowl + bottl.

I am confused, if you think this pet store is so horrid why did you give the hamster back to that pet store, instead of taking it to a nicer place, and why did you buy the hamster from the (horrid) pet store.
I didnt take him back, I took a mouse back. I took my gerbil to the vet that was in the store. I had to give him to the manager though. then the manager would take him to the vet. The reson I did this was because I didnt have the money to pay for the vet. The store said they would pay for medical attention for selling me a sick animal.

is that all cleared up now??

You do realize that by "saving" him you are only encouraging the pet store to do the same with more gerbils right? You may have made a difference to Sage, but at the price of another equally precious life.

Oh, and I called up work and talked to them about volunteers...There would certainly be a legal mess if people were "working" without being paid.

Someone else would have bought him. You may think that by not buying this gerbil, you are saving more gerbils, but do you think others are as equally educated, that they would do the same?

It doesn't have to be a legal mess. The other petshop gets volunteers all the time. I'm going to be volunteering there in the summer until I can get a real job at Petcetera. Papers can be signed..

Yes someone else would have bought him, BUT you would still be costing the store a sale by not giving them the money. It would still make a difference, however small.
