Sue, great idea! I was chuckling while I read your post. I know our lives are a little crazy right now for a dog, but as soon as we work something out (like possibly working from home...) I'm going to be dragging him to the local shelter or rescue "just to look" at all the poor creatures!! Then, I'll put your advice to work... I was on my local San Martin shelter website this week, and the 2 GSDs are still available. <whimper> I would take one home in an instant....
