Jen, I really considered a shelter first. And have been looking too. I need a high energy cat for Miley and there is no history for the shelter cats, for the most part. I am not hooked on breeders for any other reason than to have them select the kitten for me. I know that sounds silly, but they are the ones watching these guys and gals grown, interact, eat, sleep, fight etc. so I trust their judgement. I just want a sweet kitten, not one that is king of the hill or dominant. It may be that I end up with a female. Any color for sure!
I know you already know what kitties you want so I'm late in posting this, but just for future reference Many shelters have extensive foster programs and you could talk to the foster moms who fostered litters of kittens. When I foster, I welcome any potential adopter to call me about my kitties!
