I understand that, but it would likely be less expensive in the long run to get an expensive healthy bird than a cheap sickly bird that would cost a fortune in vet bills.Originally posted by tikeyas_mom
I know I am buying a companion not peanuts!!??!!Um anyways I rather buy a bird for $30.00 then 160$$
I can't believe how much "I would never pay that much" I'm hearing here. If it's the animal you really want, then any price is worth it. When I get a customer at work and the first concern they have is "how much?", I lose several notches of confidence in them as vet owners.
If your $10 Budgie needed to go to the vet, woule doy pay $40 for an exam and then more depending on what was wrong?
It is so sad when people call and tell me "Oh, it's JUST a [hamster, parakeet, rat, etc], I don't want to pay a bunch of money to take it to the vet if I can get a new one for $5! When you get a pet, you are taking responsibility for a LIFE! The animal didn't choose to be with you, you made the choice for him/her, and because of thet they deserve the best you can give them.
I'm sick to death of irresponsible pet owners who think that an inexpensive animal's life isn't worth as much as an expensive one's.
