Heartiest congratulations on your new CAIRN Terrier! If you would like to learn more about a famous Cairn Terrier, check out the info on "Toto" at www.kansasoz.com. For breed standards, try www.akc.org.

Be aware that all terriers, with some variation, are very ACTIVE children. I have a Jack Russell Terrier (my second full-blood) and she is a wild thing. Keep your shots up to date and take your new furkid everywhere you can to socialize him. Give him lots of toys to play with and chew on and try not to let him get away with biting on humans. There is a lot of difference of opinion on how to go about this, but MY preferred method is to let the object (hand, whatever) be "dead" (i.e., hold it still) and tell him "no bite". When he releases the hand (whatever) praise him a lot and give him something of his own to chew on and play with him a bit with it.

Logan is right -- puppy class will be good for both of you, especially if you have a PetsMart near you can go to for training. Excellent socialization just hanging out in the store and the trainers are generally very good.

Very best of luck with him and keep us posted with how he gets on. I'm curious about a name as well.....?
