Greetings, Speedette! Congratulations on being crowned Pet of the Day!

What a beautiful Eastern Box Turtle you are, Speedette, and clearly so very loved and well cared for by your family; truly living the life there in sunny, gorgeous NC!

As a very young child I had two Box Turtles as pets: Lou Lou and Pinky. We received them from a neighbor who had raised them since they were babies but were no longer able to care for them as they moving from their home into an apartment. I'm pretty sure my parents weren't too savvy regarding their needs, but they were much loved and well cared for, thriving, until my parents decided one summer it was better to release them back into the woods while we were on vacation. We watched them those 3 months and they adjusted well to their natural habitat, which was comforting to us all!

But as your human says, considering the amount of care required and your species' special needs, it is vital to do the necessary research before deciding to welcome a turtle or tortoise into your life! That said, what a wonderful, idyllic life you're living, Speedette! And how wonderful that this summer you'll be treated to a spacious, enclosed outdoor living area, able to enjoy the Carolina sunshine and fresh air, exploring your natural habitat!

How lucky your family is, having a beautiful, unique and fascinating shelled family member in you, Speedette! You truly are one extra special girl, and so very deserving of your big day of honor!
