This is very serious, as you already have realized.
Under no circumstances should you be injured by your pet. This might sound harsh, but euthanasia should be considered.
If you are not at that point yet, consult with your veterinarian. How old is your cat?
Since this is a new behavior, there could be some sudden health issues.
I am a veterinary assistant, and we have occasional cases like this. Almost always, there is no good outcome. Sometimes we refer the clients to an animal behaviorist, but I can tell you, more often than not, they recommend euthanasia, especially if the pet has attacked and injured a person.
