I talk and whisper to my two cats and the pup all the time.

The cats will chirp , squeak, mratt and all kinds of noises.
They have quite the interesting vocabulary =>
They really like holding conversations while snuggling with my wife and I.

And they get quite loud or musical depending on the tone of the question or statement

The pup is strong and silent and would rather play or snuggle
