In this current bitter cold weather - in fact in all cold weather months, please get in the habit of giving a simple thump to the hood of your car or truck before you start the engine. You could save a life, Lucky the Siberian Forest Cat was indeed one of the fortune ones, many animals do not survive.

Just a quick thump as you pass the hood to enter the vehicle can wake up an animal that has crawled inside for warmth and fallen asleep. It could be a neighbor's cat, a stray that wandered by, a raccoon - whatever it is, you will save yourself, your auto mechanic and it a lot of heartbreak.

I need to go out and clean the snow off my car - and start it - just to make sure the battery is up to snuff. I haven't driven it since Sunday, and as cold as it is - I should make sure it actually will start..
