I would add several that are obvious to many of us here -

• Spay or neuter - unintended pregnancies are risky and can be expensive, and more mouth to feed mean more food costs

• Get your animal regular check-ups - this can often spot minor problems before they become major

• Dental care - for dogs and cats, brush their teeth - get them accustomed to it early, and it will benefit them in the long run - and dental emergencies are expensive and painful

• Learn to do your own grooming and nail trims - saves a lot of money in the long run

(Of course, Miss Hoppy trimmed her own nails, but not every bunny can be that lucky!)
