It is a tricky situation, as feral cats in New Zealand have caused the near extinction of some of the native species, so I understand their cautious approach. It is not a simple situation by any means.

Yes Karen you are right,I believe these cats are pets,but from what I've read they are not been taken care of properly,so maybe it's a case of hoarding,I don't want to see any cats hurt or harmed either,but 37 is too many,remember cats are indoor/outdoor in nz,so they are causing problems for the neighbours,you all know how much I adore cats,but I'm not sure I would like 37 living next door to me either,there really is two sides to this story.

I would be very upset if any were harmed for sure.,and I'm so relieved this won't happen,unfortunately we too have our cat haters and cruel people ,we have this guy called Gareth Morgan,he would have all cats eradicated if he had his way,I loathe this man,and the media just gives him way too much attention.lucky nz has more cat lovers than haters,we have about 1.4 million cats and 4 million people.
