My mom has dentures and has been wearing them since I was 16 (a LONG time ago, believe me!). She didn't bother to take care of her teeth as a young girl, through no fault of her own. It was just not considered important way back then. She lost her teeth due to gum disease rather than problems with the teeth themselves. To this day she will say to everyone she meets - "There is nothing like your own teeth. Do all you can to keep them." Dentures periodically have to be relined so you still do need to see the dentist occasionally, only with relines you can have your teeth worked on while you are in the next room!
