Why are 'extreme sports' in the Games?

I have watched snowboarding and laugh every time I hear a 'trick' described like this, "It's a 720 fakie with a rear board grab....."

Yes, it is athletic and pretty crazy to watch, but it's just throwing yourself up in the air and landing, without falling..

Doesn't make sense.

Karen, I would also have loved to figure skate. As a kid, I was really good at roller skating, does anyone remember that. I love watching figure skating at the Olympics and like the swimming events too.

For some odd reason roller skating was not my forte.... not much better at ice skating.

After watching the figure skating team event I am interested in ice dancing. I like it better than the other skating disciplines, because there's not as much emphasis on triple this or spinning that. My dad and I were watching the men's skiing, the guys were shooting down the slope at 70 miles per hour! Yikes!

Merle & Charlie are the best ice dancers ever. They glide so beautifully across the ice.

The snow boarders had me on the edge of my seat, one where the ladies helmet was cracked after a spill. She looked like a rag doll for awhile but was up & walking after she got her wind back.

Ski jumping for sure. Love watching it and if I had any form of athletic ability I'd want to try it lol.

I was also pretty impressed with Mark Mcmorris winning bronze in Snowboarding with a cracked rib. Tough little guy.

For some reason I have no interest in the games this time around but support Team USA all the way. The one event I'd love to try is speed skating with mogul skiing a close second.
