With progress, there is always a step back.

Milo just tried to bite me. I refused to back off as he is no longer the boss of anything. I just kept trying to repeat the same action until he pretty much gave up.

Who knew it could take 10 mins to get 1 bootie back on

He is wearing booties on his front paws as he clawed his face all up today while trying to get his muzzle off. Then when I put him in the XL kennel for muzzle free time, he licked his paws raw! His little toes were so swollen

His ear seemed to be too red & his face was a little puffy. I gave him some benadrl to see if it would help. His ear, face, and paws are looking much nicer. His paws are so soft from all the licking.

I need to get him some winter boots, as it must be the snow thats causing it. There is no salt of any kind on my walkway or front yard (where the pups potty). I'm soooo not prepared for another dog, blarg!

So sad to know what kind of life Milo has had until now. People really stump me at times. Such a cutie, I'll pray he might be so sweet that he's found his home--sounds like he's already accepting the new rules.

He had a really good day today!

He is perfectly fine with me putting on the booties now. He doesn't even try to fight me at all. He does get too crazy/hyper/snarly with stuffies that squeak, so he is banned from those for now (I don't want to promote any growling as I'm working so hard on squashing his negative attitude). He enjoys the big rope, and the squeaky ball. I want to get him a beef bone from my Halal butcher, I think he'll love to chew on it during the day while I am at work.

He was muzzle free today, but tied. He had 0 issues through the day and was very well behaved.

He learned a valuable lesson outside. I tried to stop him from using his face as a snow plow, as the top layer is ice (freezing rain). He kept doing it until it cut his little nose His nose is fine. It wasn't very deep so the bleeding stopped quickly. This was the biggest reason I had him muzzle free today.

I set up the XL kennel in the basement (my pc is down there & so are all my critters). He loves to sleep in it. I have him tied to the base of the door, so he can come out & sleep on the big dog bed beside my PC. He has a water bowl & toys down here.

I find he is most relaxed down here, as the furnace fan is always on & makes noise that drowns out everything else. I also like it. So I had him sleep in the kennel down here last night. He didn't make a peep all night & was a happy little bugger this am when I got up.

He is currently passed out in his kennel with booties on his front paws

Last night we also had a HUGE break through with him. We don't think he hates the cat, nor wants to hurt her. We think he is just TOO interested in sniffing her, which she doesn't approve of yet. Last night we allowed him to run free on the main level of the house with his muzzle on. Cam came down the stairs to slink into the kitchen. Milo stood up & I told him to lay down and be quiet. He obeyed & stared at Cam. She came into the same room to get a drink of water. She has been slinking from room to room to look at him all day.

    Happy day

Oh, wow! Progress on all fronts! I used to laugh when our dogs would do that "snow plow" maneuver, but it was the Saint Bernards who loved doing that the most, and they were furry enough to never get damaged by any ice!

The funniest ever was a dog that I took care of often, who belong to my bosses. Tyler was a sheltie, and on walks would look for any big enough patch of unsullied snow, leap into it and flop down on his back in wriggle! I called it his "doggie snow angel" move, and it made me laugh every time!

    Oh dear, oh dear!

Such poor ownership! Why are people allowed to do such cruel things to defenseless animals?

Glad that Milo is in a much better situation and so glad to hear that he is doing so well! Bravisimo to all! I look forward to hearing more success.

    Last night was really bad.

Milo hates the cat & wants to kill her. He was loose with his muzzle when Cam walked into the living room. Milo charged and started attacking her. She screamed and fought only to get away from him (he pinned her to the wall). When I got him off of her, he had her fur in his mouth.

We tried putting her in her crate for him to see her safely, so we could make him sit and settle down. No amount of trying to get him to sit, food, toys, shouting, clapping our hands, snapping the leash worked. He was totally deaf to the world.

After that, he wouldn't stop barking and was totally out of control. I put his bark collar on for the first time since he was at my place as we still rent & I don't want Digi & Charlie kicked out because of him.

It zapped him & that stopped him in his tracks. No more out of control deaf dog.

We are going to try with Cam in a crate again to see if we can get him to settle down. The bark collar will be on him & we are hoping it'll help us try to get control over the situation, as he listens so darn well to it. If the bark collar isn't enough, we'll try the remote control collar (it also has a remote beep). Our goal is to break his death concentration so we can TRY to get him to sit and do other commands around the cat.

Any other suggestions PLEASE share. I have worked with aggressive dogs before (why its going so well), but they were not totally deaf to the world like this.

Please note, that Cam is not your typical cat. She was content in the crate with Milo on the other side of it. When we let her out, she was purring at my feet & remained in the living room with Milo, but out of reach.

There is a waiting list for the program. I hope Milo moves up quickly and it may be less than three months. Could the health department help you get in sooner, considering the circumstances? If he is neutered sooner, would that improve your ability to help him learn new behaviors? Maybe three months is not a long enough amount of time that it would make a difference, though. I would like to say again, bless you for taking Milo in! And hugs to Charlie and Digi too!

The health department only cares about rabies. All they did was look at him from afar through a window, then leave. The guy didn't come anywhere near my place.

From what I read, no one gets in sooner. Everyone has to obey the waiting list. It kinda sucks, but I don't think it's the end of the world right now.

Milo and Cam were sharing the same dog bed tonight.

The remote static collar came in today. At first I thought it wasn't working as Milo was chasing the cat all over. The directions suck. So I pressed random buttons and now understand how it works. 1,2,3 is low med high. 4,5,6 is multi pulse. Not sure the strength for those 3. Then there is crazy vibrate. Milo hates it. It really breaks his focus.

After a short while of corrections on stop trying to chase the cat, he gave up. Once he layed down, Cam came straight over to him and fell asleep a couple feet away. They both got up over the evening, and both ended up sleeping near the other.

Cam loves to play with dogs, and really wants to be his friend. I am hoping he will understand quickly that Cam is not a squeaky toy.

I look forward to tomorrow. I really hope the crazy vibrating will allow him to control himself. The muzzle will remain for a very long time.

Mile has had a good few days.

The static/vibrating collar has made him into a new dog. His drive to hurt and chase the cat is really low. He now will gently interact with her, and has shared the big dog bed with her many times now.

Today we had his muzzle off, and allowed him to chase a ball with Digi & Charlie. He has some manors to learn, but hes pretty good at dropping the ball. Hes just terrible at getting the ball first, so I have to fake throw & then gently throw the ball to his feet so he can get it some of the time.

He was trying to get frisky with Digi today, that didn't go well on his part. She shot him down quickly, and gave him a lot of lip. Poor guy

Last night he indicated that he wanted some attention. I picked him up & held him like a baby on my lap & gave him a nice chest rub. He really enjoyed it & enjoyed a gentle hug.

Sadly his interactions with Trevor are almost 0 right now. Trevor cannot pet, walk, or play with any of the dog right now. He slipped on our outside step breaking his hand yesterday. Neither of us got any sleep that night (the ER visit was pretty fast IMO), and after I brought Trevor home, I had to go to work. When I got home, I passed out in bed, and slept for 19hrs. I was so out of it, that I didn't remember that my dad had called me in the am to see how Trevor was doing. All that means, is that the poor dogs had to hold it for 19hrs. No one had an accident! Mind you they all exploded outside the second they hit the snow. I'm so happy Milo has bladder control. Dealing with Charlies 0 bladder control was very frustrating, as he was worse then a puppy.

So glad to hear Milo is doing well, cautiously optimistic! Sorry to hear about Trevor, but glad the ER visit was at least not too bad in terms of timing, I am sure they all staff heavily for New Years just n case!

That could explain why they took him in so quickly. We only waited for about 25 mins or so in the waiting room. They got him an xray right away, but the wait for a dr took a few hours. I was shocked at the $22.00 parking though, that was sick
