Mikey's Christmas

T'was Christmas Eve in old P.A.
And preparations over, done for the day
The lights were all hung, the tree shining bright
Garlands and wreathes all placed just right
And as dear little Seri went to head to bed
Anticipation of Christmas joys dancing in her head
There suddenly up on the newel post hopped
A dear tabby boy, Mikey on top
"Seri, little one," he quietly meowed,
"I know you're new here, but I am proud
To be the one choses to give you best wishes,
For purrs and rubs are kitty hugs and kisses.
And the secret of Christmas, I shall tell you dear,
Is not coming from Santa, or carried by reindeer
But it is Love, sent down from God for me and you
Love we teach you, and Love we get from you!
Sleep well, dear child, and dream away,
And remember we cats love you,
And that gift will never go away."
And with one scratchy kiss, and skritches received
He sent her off to bed,
Hoping his message was taken in, and believed.
