We got a sympathy card from my vet as well when we had to put our cat Fred down and it made me feel even worse as well. Take your time, one does not have to put a time limit on great loss. What a beautiful cat Malachi.

    What a beautiful, beautiful boy!
I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
    Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.

Thanks all for the kind words. It's been a hard week adjusting to our now quieter home. Phinehas has been glued to me nonstop and has been sleeping under the covers with me at night. I know it's going to take some time to adjust, but wanted to see if there was any advice in terms of helping a grieving cat and also when the right time would be to possibly add another companion cat. I know I'm not ready just yet, but would like Phinehas to have a kitty companion to cuddle with sometime in the future.

It is hard, but when the time is right, your heart will know, I promise. There is no set time when one should get a new kitty - everything is variable including your heart, Phin's needs and the rest. We'll be thinking of you!

Karen, I'm so sorry for your loss and sorry that I haven't replied to this thread sooner. Malachi sure was a very unique cat. I remember playing fetch with him. RIP sweet boy. Please take care. (((HUGS)))

As Karen already said, you'll know when the time is right to let another cat into to life. I wish you good luck in finding a companion for Phinehas.

Thanks Tracey. Too bad I'm not still in CA so we could make another trip up to visit Linda! It was totally fun going up there to see her kitties!
