Science Diet has a RX food, available only through a vet clinic. And, like all other SD products- it is crap food. Do not be fooled into thinking that BECAUSE a vet recos a food, and it is a RX diet, that it is good.

I know nothing about Royal Canin.

I would get with a nutritionist, and figure out what her allergies are (though chicken seems to be often at the top of the heap with dogs), and go that route.

I went with the Royal Canin. The SD ingredients didn't look great. Hopefully I'll be able to switch back to something else eventually. I'm looking for some place online to buy strips to test the pH myself

Good job. I don't know about finding the strips on line so can't help with that.

This should do the trick and help her recover.

Hoping to hear great update about your Clover very soon. I read somewhere that crystals/stones forming in dog bladder have different varieties and should be treated with right diet accordingly.

So I switched Clovers food a couple weeks ago. As I thought, she is allergic to Chicken (or something in the food?) She began chewing her feet a lot more, and even chewed off part of her paw pad. I put a boot on it to keep her from licking it and she chewed through the boot. I had to keep a cone on her. After talking to the vet, they said to stop the food and gave me a recipe to make her for a couple weeks. It's rice, liver, eggs and some other things. If she's allergic to chicken, would she also be allergic to eggs?

She's been on the new diet for a few days now and she's already licking her paws less. She is at them a bit but so much better then she was. I also got her urine re tested before I started and she has no more crystals and her pH is now 8 down from 9. I ordered pH strips to test it myself. I'm going to put her back on Blue Buffalo in a week or 2 and see if her pH goes up again. She did well on BB before so hopefully it will be ok.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the $75 dollars worth of food I have let lol. The vet won't take it back. I was stupid and got a big bag ($115) instead of a small bag....not sure why. I figured she'd need at least a month to get her pH down I guess.

Glad the PH is going down, that is great.

And now you know, NO chicken for this puppa. Poor thing.

Post the food you have on craigslist for your area, I bet someone will need it! You may have to take a discount, but at least it won't be a total loss.
