I heard from Kami's mom and for those of you wondering, she did come home at just two weeks:

The owners of her mom needed to give all the kittens away very urgently because the were moving town and couldn't take all the kittens. Kami was the last one, and I saw her on a web looking for an older cat for Gino and i just found her so i called.

So it was not her current person's decision to separate her from her cat mother so young, but at least she ended up in a good home with her and Gino!

Thank you for that great update about Kami's age. The owner must have had to bottle feed her for a while. What dedication to the kitten that was!
