Since we've had both types of events I've found that it doesn't matter whether you know or not - you are just not prepared to lose your best friend. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks to everyone for their condolences.
Lady had been diagnosed with bone cancer a year ago, and when they did X-rays to check her abdomen they found masses between her liver and pancreas. While it wasn't a surprise to us that it was her time to go, it was a shock that she went downhill so quickly. She started having serious issues last Friday, and by Tuesday I knew it wasn't going to be long.

When I went to work Wednesday night, knowing it was probably Lady's last day, I told one of my co-workers when they asked how I was doing, "Not bad, I just probably have to go amputate my right hand tomorrow". Not being pet people, they didn't get it, and I just couldn't explain.
The one eyed man in the kingdom of the blind wasn't king, he was stoned for seeing light.
LH, your initial posting is a beautiful one.
I am sorry to learn this news, very sorry for your loss, LH and LOH, and family. Lady has been a fixture here on PT. This is always a difficult time, whether you know or are caught unaware. Give yourselves time, time to grieve, time to remember, time to miss her.
.
When we lost two pets within a three month span, several people at my work were just so confused. They are just dogs......REALLY?!? No, they were furry family members and I grieved them as such. I still miss them and it's been over 3 years ago. I agree, non-pet people don't get it at all. When I went to work Wednesday night, knowing it was probably Lady's last day, I told one of my co-workers when they asked how I was doing, "Not bad, I just probably have to go amputate my right hand tomorrow". Not being pet people, they didn't get it, and I just couldn't explain.
I am so sorry for your loss. Dear Lady, RIP, play free at the Bridge.

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3:1The clock of life is wound but once and no man has the power
To know just when the hands will stop - on what day, or what hour.
Now is the only time you have, so live it with a will -
Don't wait until tomorrow - the hands may then be still.

You can never replace love or a pet.
It seems they always show up on their own.
Just when you aren't looking?
They come up beside you,
engage you
then steal your heart.

The funniest lines about love and pets?
I'll never fall for that, again!!!
Just when you gain your feet,
you find yourself brushing yourself off
"Boy, did I fall hard and fast....."

Play hard Lady.....you are free now.
