    February Afternoon

Snowy day, and more to come
It does my heart good to see
    All the little dark juncos
    That elder generations called snowbirds
Busily eating up the seed I have thrown down
To tide them over the coming hours

The governor has closed the roads
    Neighbors are huddled inside
Cars shrouded with a growing blanket of white
    But the juncos keep going
    Sprightly and gay
Cheery little silhouettes on the snowy ground

    "Slow Down," the Beatles sang
And as the world settles in for the storm,
Only the juncos disregard their advice.

Snowbirds - such cute little guys. That's what they call folks from the north - Here, there, and everywhere - that head south to Florida for the winter. I'll bet a lot more folks would do the same if they had a free Ticket to ride!

Now is the only time you have, so live it with a will -
Don't wait until tomorrow - the hands may then be still.

I'd like to hijack this Thursday's for a meeting of the overcooker's anonymous chapter.....

I started a pot of Gumbo.

Had extra stuff (leftover chicken sitting in the fridge, etc) and tossed it in.

Adjusted the recipe to account for the extra stuff.

Now I'm wondering if I have enough room in the crockpot to add the sausage.

Only pot left that's bigger is one of the pots we use for canning.....

    I need help.

Ah, took me years before I learned to adjust my cooking amounts to the number of people that would be consuming it! Hey, put half of it in the BIG bowl, add sausage to each and cook separately?

But that would sorta defeat the purpose of cooking it in the crock pot in the first place.....

It SHOULD fit, I'll just have to be careful to not stir TOO hard.

Crock Pots do not come with sideboards ...

Best set the thing on a cookie sheet, because you KNOW you're gonna stir too hard at some point!

I was sick for two days, talk about wiped out?

A bowl of gumbo sounds great, I'll help stir.

I don't mind cleaning the stove.
