It is unseasonably cold here. Today the high was 24 with tiny snow/sleet/freezing rain. Next week it is to be in the 50's and 60's here in central NC.

Hee hee - kaycountrygal, it was in the twenties here today which kinda felt warm! Didn't even put my gloves on when I was outside! We may get a bit of snow overnight, but just a wee bit!

Checking in at a bit warmer at 13* tonight. Added a few inches of snow too.

Still cold and supposed to stay in the 20's today. Our "few" inches of snow that we were supposed to get last night, turned into a measly 1 inch at best. It's so light and fluffy that when the wind picks back up later today, it will all blow away. And with a couple of days next week with temps predicted in the 50's - well that will finish off anything that might still be laying around............

    Glacier and kuhio............

I love the cold weather, but even the temps that you've posted are a little too much for me. How do you stand it - other than not going out of the house unless it's a life or death matter???? Glad I don't have your heating bills.

Tamara ~ You can keep that cold! Don't send it our way, it's bad enough here already.

    Current weather at Prudhoe airport:

    Deadhorse Airport
    Lat: 70.2 Lon: -148.47 Elev: 76
Last Update on Jan 27, 5:53 am AKST

    -22 °F (-30 °C)
    Humidity: 69 %
    Wind Speed: SW 14 MPH
    Barometer: 30.50" (1032.9 mb)
    Dewpoint: -29 °F (-34 °C)
    Wind Chill: -47 °F (-44 °C)
    Visibility: 9.00 mi

For those who mentioned heating bills, etc. On the bright side..... we sure don't have any cooling bills in the summer! So, it all averages out.

Figured I would check the temperature, as all 8 of the morning doves that live here - and are rarely seen feeding together in more than 2 or three at a bunch - are all gathered around the two plates of seed now that I refilled them.

It is currently 9°F (-13°C), but the wind chill is at -9°F (-23°C)!

You sure have the winter over there! We've had an extremely warm winter this year. Hardly any snow.

It felt like it was above freezing this afternoon, so I spent some time carving the snow bank back before the next storm came, and gained 2 more feet of parking room for my car. I then came inside and checked - it was actually 28°F(-2.2°C), and so was not even above freezing, it just felt that was as I have become so accustomed to bitter cold temperatures! Just checked, that was the height, is has now dropped to 26°F (-4C) and is snowing again!

When it is 21°F (-6° C) at noon in Boston ....

They say it's spring in Boston
    Beneath a clear blue sky
    But ice dams still
    On rooftops lurk
And laugh, and shout "You lie!"

They say it's spring in Boston
    After our record snow
    But snowbanks,
    Frozen solid still
    Stolidly say, "Just no!"

They say it's spring in Boston
    The potholes rule the road
    But ice forms in them
    Every night
    The road bed to corrode

They say it's spring in Boston
But I think they do not know
    Spring ain't just
    A calendar date,
When still the north winds blow

They say it's spring in Boston
    While gardeners just sigh
    No tilling works
    In frozen ground
First planting may be in July!

Well, it's supposed to get up into the 40s this week.

I'll believe it when I see it, especially with 1" of new snow on the ground this morning.

Well, today we have bright sunshine, and it is above freezing in the direct sunlight. The temperature is actually right on 32°F (0°C) but the water I set out for the birds is liquid, as the sun is beating down on it!

They are still predicting 46’F tomorrow, we'll believe it when it happens!
