WOW - thanks for that info, Karen. I checked out that site, and 2 of the fruit cakes are very similar to the cakes from Sears. And of course they are even more expensive than when I used to buy them, but I'll probably buy one of the smaller ones anyway.

When I worked in a bakery many lifetimes ago, we made fruit cakes every year. They were really good. Or maybe that's just because the boss let me have the last swig of rum and brandy in the bottles.

Tonight, I'd settle for a hot chocolate with tons of marshmallows.

My dad would hide the rum soaked fruit cakes from us......

    Karen,
My mom had a recipe for a fast and easy FC that I wish I would have paid attention to...

    Pom,

I hope it's as good as you remember.

Looking around, thinking it was time for a little something, just made myself a yummy snack. One slice of bread, (Oat and Honey bread from When Pigs Fly) was sitting there, as three slices had been stuck together when I went to thaw a couple for my lunch. Toasted that, added a bit of marscapone, and then blueberry jam! And the good news is, there's enough to share of anyone else wants some!

Edited to add links to the bread bakery and the kind of jam, both of which are so good I recommend them to anybody! No corn syrup, simple ingredient lists, and yummy!

Got all the fixings for an oatmeal cookie and bread.

It seems like a good day to bake.

And for a cup of tea.

Yup - good day to bake ~~~ chilly, damp, dreary, foggy, and just generally YUK! I made up 4 batches of cookie dough yesterday and they're in fridge to bake later this week. If I bake now, there won't be any left by Christmas! Regular chocolate chip, white chocolate chip and macadamia nut, and a double batch of peanut butter cookies - should be plenty to share on here too.

I'm not a tea fan, but I'll sit a spell and have a big mug of hot chocolate if there's any available.
