Wet food is the best route, I think. I tried fountains, they are now collecting dust in the cellar. The expensive - not just the electric, but the constant changing of the filters - and the cats really didn't use them all that much. In the wild, cats seldom drink - they get the fluids they need from their prey.
Canned food, and also use broth over the kibble. I buy the low sodium broth, don't want to start a new issue. On the other hand, I figure the small amount of sodium makes the cat thirsty so he drinks more. You can really drive yourself bonkers with this, ha haaa. I also buy canned sardines in water, oh my the cats LOVE that! I don't put that over the kibble, I put it on a separate plate. They lick it dry! (No, it is not the dogs, I have the plate where the dogs can't reach).
