Aly, it takes a special person, to work at the shelter like you. I have thought of doing it, but don't think I could take it.
My dad had to return a GSD back to the breeder many years ago, shortly after they got married, b/c he was so protective of my dad he wouldn't let anyone near him, not even my mom. He chased her around the car one day and kept yelling for my dad to make him stop and he was laughing to hard!!! My mom is not a brave person when it comes to dogs anyway and this was the final straw!!!
The breeder gave the dog to the army and they used him as a service dog.
