I'm asking for prayers for my friend Gwen. Yesterday at work we got an e-mail telling us her 21 year old daughter passed away. Today we learned her daughter was found in her car having been shot in her face. As a parent I can't begin to imagine what Gwen must be going through because of this horrible situation.
FIND A PURPOSE IN LIFE.....BE A BAD EXAMPLE
Prayers and positive thoughts are going out to everyone in need.
I also need some prayers and positive vibes. I'll be having some minor surgery this Fri. morning on my left eye. My tear duct is blocked and this will now be the second time that this has happened. I had a similar surgery almost 10 years ago. This time I have an eye specialist doing the surgery and he'll put a stent in the corner of my left eye which I'll have to keep in place for at least 3 months. This is an outpatient surgery but I do have to be under anesthesia. I will then be off the whole next week recovering and will go back for my post-op appt. on 11-11-11 to have my stitches taken out. I just hope that everything goes smoothly and I won't ever need this type of surgery again. Thanks in advance.
Everyone is in my thoughts that needs them. I am very shaken right now.
First to update a litte on Mike, my friends BIL, he is improving each day and doing it faster than anyone expected.
On another note...our good friend suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm this past Tuesday. She spent 12 hours in surgery and they felt that wasn't going to do it. She more minor surgery done and is sedated and restrained because she becomes agitated. She is not very responsive right now and has a long road to recovery. Months. And even with that they are not sure how her mental capacity will be.
Meredith is such a sweet caring person. It is breaking my heart that this is happening to her. And her husband, Randy, is like a big old teddy bear. These two work with Bruce and the non-profit organization Guitars Not Guns.
I would like to ask my PT family if you could say a prayer or do whatever it is you do for this family. They have two adult daughters as well.
Thank you.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

We got an update on Meredith last night. The only tubes she is connected to now are the ones to release the fluid that develops on her brain and a feeding tube. She is responsive, knows who is there to visit her. She squeezes her husband hand in response to his questions. She fights the feeding tube, but stops when they tell her to.
It sounds like she is making great progress, but there is still a LONG road ahead. I can't help but feel that PT had a part in this wonderful step forward for her.
The email group her husband sends updates to has been named by him "Meredith's Angels". A friend of the family sent all of us an email and mentioned helping the family with meals. I had just talked about this to my mom and had not had a chance to talk to Bruce about it. I'm so glad she is doing this for them.
Anyway, thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers.

Sorry, but we got another update this morning. Her husband was pleasantly surprised when he went into the ICU this morning. She is sitting up in a chair, is able to talk about finances and sign forms and engage in conversations with vistors. And she was able to lift her left hand up to touch his face. (happy tears!)
She said her goal is to be walking at the NAMM show (a music conference we always attend with them) in January. This brought on the tears for me big time. I was so bummed that they would not be able to attend this year. She had already reserved a suite for us to share and everything. Now I am so excited and just so happy!
There is still a long road ahead, but she seems to be okay in the cognitive aspect of things. Her long term memory is great, however, her short term memory is a little fuzzy. When she is able to engage 3 hours of rehab they will move her to a more intensive rehab facility. She still tires easily, as you would expect.
Thank you so much to anyone and everyone. Even if all you did was read this and just give out a thought.

Thanks Tracey.
Well in the update today there was sad news. She is still going great, but we just learned that her mother passed away the same day she had her surgery. They waited to tell her until she was stable enough to take the news. Her husband said she took it well and will use the anger she feels about that toward her own recovery. Her mother was not a good therapy/rehab patient and didn't do what she should. Meredith will not do that in her own recovery.
She has a new goal. They have tickets to a concert of some kind on Dec. 9th. She is determined to go to that event.

My friend Meredith got to come home last weekend (the 19th). We have not been to visit her yet because Bruce has been sick for a week.
Thanks for all the thoughts!
