Hi from Montreal! Thanks for sharing Sugar's story. I am sure she misses her first family but bless you for taking her in - I work in rescue and so often people either dump the cats at a shelter or have them killed after the passing of a family member. Sugar is a smart cat by not eating dry food - it actually is known (although people prefer to ignore this) to cause obesity, renal failure, etc. when given as a main meal. Sadly many people prefer the convenience of that (and clumping litter) but it has horrible consequences on our furry friends. Think of it this way - would you want to eat nuts daily with next to no water - your organs would suffer and you would be huge.

Many plants are poisonous so you may want to do a google search to find out about yours.

My cat Beyli used to lick plastic bags too (even more when he was in renal failure (CRF). I found out that the bags have an oil on them so that they don't stick together and Beyli was in need of that oil to soothe his stomach from the acid forming. I started giving him famotidine (like Pepcid) and it helped him a lot (vet recommended). It would be good, if you haven't done so, to have a bloodtest done asap to see why she isn't well - this is considered a roller coaster of an illness, but treatable (with Famotidine, Fortekor for blood pressure (or Benazepril) and sometimes Sub Q's. So many illnesses are treatable once we know what to do - vets often don't advise us of the options for some reason...

I am honored with my cat Caramel's hugs every time I get home - heaven!

Take care.
