Me again. She wants more petting, most likely because she is picking up on your emotions. IF you can (and this is NOT easy), try to live in the present, as she does.

So getting her up into the car will be alright. Getting her down, can you use a big beach towel, hold it around her middle and ease her down thee steps that way? Maybe practice a few times now, before her surgery.
