On side streets like mine, we have to wait for the thaw. And the flooding which inevitably goes with it.

On main streets and highways, the snow is loaded into dump trucks and hauled away. That all happens over night, every night until done.

In the past, the cities and towns in RI would dump the snow into the rivers. The DEM (Dept. of Environmental Management) put an end to that last year. The guidelines advise the cities to dump it in parks or parking lots. All the sand, salt and other chemicals used to prevent icing and encourage melting were killing off the river creatures.
