On side streets like mine, we have to wait for the thaw. And the flooding which inevitably goes with it.

On main streets and highways, the snow is loaded into dump trucks and hauled away. That all happens over night, every night until done.

In the past, the cities and towns in RI would dump the snow into the rivers. The DEM (Dept. of Environmental Management) put an end to that last year. The guidelines advise the cities to dump it in parks or parking lots. All the sand, salt and other chemicals used to prevent icing and encourage melting were killing off the river creatures.

Wow! While we don't have that much snow, I've seen it before. Luckily this winter we've had a couple 'meltdown days' every now and then. I'm noticing my driveway is getting narrower as I pile up the snow. My paths the pups and I walk in the yard are getting big piles of snow where I pile it up and making them narrower in spots!
I do love winter and snow, so I'm not one to complain. Thanks for sharing all those pics!

Wow! That's a lot of snow. I'm so glad that I don't have to worry about snow any more. I remember my mom telling me that when we were little sometimes we couldn't go outside because the snow was so deep that it was over our heads. This was when we lived in PA.

I don't mind it too much, as I don't HAVE to go out (work, school, etc.) It is a bother with the dogs, for me. Other folks have HAD IT!

We have a huge storm coming in Tues / Wed. If it is all snow, we are due 15 to 20 inches. Doesn't look like it will do that though, 3 to 5 inches, then rain, making about an inch of ice, and then back to snow. Heavy stuff, hard to move it.
