We got back from the vet not too long ago with good new - and bad.
First the good news - she isn't diabetic. Her blood sugar was a nice healthy 122. Bad news?? - she has kidney disease. The good news there tho, she is NOT in kidney failure, tho of course that could eventually be what happens if something else doesn't get her first. It's simply age related, and doc will approach and control it as best she can with diet. So Myn is now on a low protein diet - Hills Prescription K/D canned (at $2.35 per can and by prescription only!!!), as she won't eat dry food. Doc said to ease her into it - 1/4 of that to 3/4 of what she now gets, and then after a few days increase it to half and half, then 3/4 Hills to 1/4 what she gets now, and then eventually all Hills if she will eat it. She can have veggies like peas, green beans and carrots, and she likes all of them, so I'm hoping she won't have a problem adjusting to the new food. I'm to feed her the same volume of food that she gets now - just have to adjust what it is that she eats. Doc is pleased that she is maintaining her weight and that the appetite is good - that's very much a plus in her favor. So that's the scoop on the old girl. I know I can't expect her to live forever, and that something will take her from me one day - but I'm still not at all prepared for it.
Thanks again for the well wishes, and I did deliver that kiss to her, Karen. She LOVES kisses! If you could remember my Myn from time to time in your PT prayers, we would be so thankful for them. I'm always so thankful for my PT Family and all the support that they give.
And before I forget - since this was Sparky's vet appointment today originally - he is doing just fine. The infection in his gums has all cleared up and he will be on a monthly regimen of 5 days of antibiotics each month, so that the infection doesn't come back. Nothing will stop the plaque buildup, and doc will just scrape and snip that off as needed.
So that's the latest from the Fuzzbuttz and their Mom.![]()
