Awwwww Specs - you just don't know what hit you - do you??? Just relax and take it easy, and you'll be feeling lots better in no time, and all this will just seem like a bad dream.

Mary - I'm sure he's going to be just fine. I'm certain he's just totally spooked by the whole ordeal and doesn't understand why he feels like he does. Imagine going to sleep, and waking up and feeling like a big old bus ran over you! Add to that, that he's a Fraidy to start with - well is it any wonder that he's acting like he is?????

Prayers continue for his speedy recovery, from me and the Fuzzbuttz.

I just got off the phone w/Dr. Lee. He said that it more than likely is the pain med Buprinex that's causing him to act that way. He said that it acts like morphine. He also said that those two teeth were so rotten that he had to use a drill to get them out, that it was like removing wisdom teeth in an adult, so no wonder his little mouth is so sore!

Specs refused soft canned food this morning and he still hasn't drunk any water or used the litter box and that really had me concerned. Again, Dr. Lee said not to worry but if it continues to call him back and that I can give Specs a subQ treatment if he still refuses water. I'm going to buy some baby food and add a little water and syringe it into his mouth at Dr. Lee's suggestion.

I just wish I had seen those bad teeth sooner. I checked his gums and the teeth that he would allow me to see but it's no wonder that he wouldn't let me check his back molars. He was probably in so much pain and I had no way of knowing. I'll tell ya, I really wish God would've given our furkids the power of speech just when they're sick or in pain. (Otherwise, I'd go nuts w/all the yacking around here. Yodie talks too much as it is. LOL)

I feel better after having talked w/Dr. Lee. He always makes me feel better. Now, to make my boy Specs feel better......

Thanx for all the kind words and prayers, my PT family. It's so appreciated.
    Blessings,
    Mary

Hugs Mary, you are doing great, checking in w/the doc and so on.

Considering what you have described, I wouldn't expect him to eat at all today. It must hurt just to open his mouth, and if the meds are making him "loopy," eating is not going to help.

Praying for healing and recovery to kick in soon. Once you stop the morphine-like meds,it may take 12 hours for that to clear his system.

Can you confine him to one room for a day or 2? I had to chuckle at you down on the floor to get him out from under a cabinet, but I'm sure it wasn't funny, you were too worried about him.

Well, I always have food, water and a litter box set up in the guest room for just such situations and I put him in there and he did not like it one bit. He shrieked and shrieked and I didn't want to stress him any more than he'd already been so I brought him downstairs. He seemed to be ok there but there are so many tight places to get into in the basement and, of course, he found one instantly. I probably did look like a crazy cat lady crawling on my belly to drag him out from under the Hoosier but if he had been bleeding, I'd never be able to tell b/c it's so dark under there. Fortunately, the bleeding has stopped.

Dr. Lee said that Specs wasn't coming out of the anesthesia as quickly as he'd like so he gave him something to bring him out of it and he actually jumped up. That's what he thinks got the bleeding going. He also said that I could switch him to Tramadol twice a week b/c Buprinex kills the pain but it also causes depression, which could be another reason why Specs doesn't want to eat or drink. He just doesn't care to do much of anything. I'll wait and see how he is when I get home this evening. I sure don't want him to be in any more pain than he has to be but I want him to eat just a little something and definitely to drink water.
    Blessings,
    Mary

Hi Mary, I am sure you are tired from being up in the night and worrying about your boy. (Hugs to you) I totally understand; I would have been concerned also. It sounds as if you did everything you could. He probably was just reacting to the pain meds. I kept reading your posts and was relieved to see that he is behaving more normal today. I agree that it is scary when our beloved pets do not act "right", especially after any med procedure. Keep us posted. Kay in NC

When I came home a little while ago, I went to the basement to check on Specs and he actually came out from under the Hoosier cabinet but he didn't want to get too close to me. LOL I fed the rest of the Fur Posse and he turned up his nose so I made the baby food liquid that Dr. Lee suggested. Specs started lapping it up before I could syringe it but it must have hurt his mouth to do even that. So I squirted several syringes full in his mouth and when he finally turned his head away, I assumed he was satisfied. Back down into the basement he went, though. At least he has an appetite albeit a small one. I think I'll forego the Buprinex and if he seems to be in pain, then I'll give it to him but I'm hoping he'll be more like himself once he no longer has that in his system. I've tried to snap a pic of him but he keeps turning away and it's also hard to snap a pic while I'm on my belly. LOL His face isn't as swollen as yesterday. He looked like a chipmunk w/his cheeks full of nuts.
    Blessings,
    Mary

Mary, I was so glad to read that Specs ate some of the mixture you squirted in his mouth. That's good that you got some food & liquids in him. You're doing good! Later tonight he might eat some more ?? Kay in NC
