Aww, this just brings back memories of my Taz. But I'm so glad to hear that his illness seems to be fixable! Such great news!! I'm so sorry you've been so stressed out over the holiday worrying about Mr Allen. And I will hope that it is an easy fix (and inexpensive too) to get Allen back on the road to health again.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

Kidney Failure. I have no idea what to do. Its terminal.... a matter of months if I try to "fix" him now. What type of life will he have? One of pain and misery? Save him for my own beneift? Or put him to sleep peacefully?

Oh Sweetie....I wish I knew what to tell you...you will do what is right for him and for you as well.

I can only send you my prays right now. Whatever you decide will be fine with us and fine with Allen...my vet always told me as long as they are willing to eat and walk around then let them be....they will let you know when it is time....not always sadly...I've found that out but I wish you the best with this hardest decision. My thoughts will be with you and Allen.

Just spoke to the vet. She said its 50/50 of him making it past thursday. She said he might make it home after treatment and she might not need to see him for a while. Or he could be in and out of the vet every few weeks. God this is hard.

I have serious issuees with quality of life. I went through this with Pouncer. He wwas constantly sick. Constantly on meds and he hated it. He was misreable. I knew if he got seriously sick again I would have let him go, because its not fair to him.

Now I have that decision for Allen. Like my husband said, he's had a great life. He was loved and happy. Is he happy now?

Oh my, Allen! You do look handsome under the Christmas tree!

Once he gets on some meds and subq fluids, he will feel (and look) better and can go several months with minimal intervention.

You can do the subq fluids right at home, they show you how.

I did it with Amber, and with . . . I think Ruffles?

My Sparkle is now in the early stages of CRF, so I am treating her, she is not on the fluids as yet.

Whatever you decide will be the right thing, as you have all the info direct from the vet, and you can see Allen.

Hugs to you at this time.

Oh no. I was hoping this would not be the diagnosis.
I can't even remember how long Taz went after he was diagnosed with it. But I do know I was giving him sub-q fluids for about two weeks. They didn't work very well for him, obviously. But I see here on PT that they have worked wonders for others and the cat has been around for a year or so longer.
You just have to decide if you want to take the chance and see if they will work for Allen. If you are willing to do the fluids (I never thought I would be able to do it, but I did it!) then give it a try. That's my opinion. But (as others said to me) only YOU will know when it is his time. I didn't really with Taz, but my vet carefully helped me understand. When the fluids weren't working there was nothing else we could do for him.
It is such a difficult thing to have to decide. But you just have to keep Allen in mind. Still to this day (over a year and a half after losing Taz) I have to remind myself that I did what was best for him.

    ((Hugs)) to you.
