Well, they are doing ok, considering where they came from.
None of them have the faintest idea about housetraining. The dachshund is blind in one eye, looks like an untreated injury at some point in the past. The smallest IG has a horrible limp from a broken leg that was probably left to heal on its own. She is also vastly underweight, you can see every bone in her body. The three old IG girls have no teeth, literally. They have tumors and arthritis, from sleeping on concrete for years. They are between 10 and 12 years old, and I'm sure they have had between 20 and 24 litters of puppies, each. They are pitiful.
I pretty much AM the rescue group around here. I got these guys through my friend who rescues in Utah. But she has the other half of this group ... more IGs, bishons and min pins.
Yeah, my hubby pretends to be macho, but he's a softie. He carries the little IG around all the time like a baby so she doesn't have to walk.
"We give dogs the time we can spare, the space we can spare and the love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made" - M. Facklam
"We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers - thieves planting flags, murderers carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."- P.S. Beagle
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien
