I also read that Evi is the sick one...that he is afraid to leave and that she may kill them both in a murder suicide to make it look like the 'plot' is real.

Wom...actually, Evi's dad sent documentation that proves she is CANADIAN!!!!(bangs head on wall repeatedly)
She and hubby are free now, but do have to appear in court in California.
