Awful awful thing to happen. We don't realize how dangerous this kind of sport can be.. We just see them zooming along and think "wow, what a great ride". Now I will be more aware when I see events of this kind.

    Prayers for his family.

I heard that he was airlifted to hospital - on the next newscast, he had died. Too, too tragic.

He was going at about 130kph/81MPH when his machine left the track and crashed into some kind of structure.

At the peak of his life, all he had trained for, a dream come true...

Prayers for his family and friends.

I heard this on the evening news. They showed the film of the crash.
    So sad.

I love the winter olympics and was absolutely stunned by this news. May he rest in peace, in a way his dream did come true. He DID make it to the olympics.

I just watched as Georgia marched out, they all looked so solemn, I imagine some of them saw it and they were all friends.. So sad, and honestly they were all probably thinking "he should be marching out here with us".

Alysser, the Georgian team was considering withdrawing from the Games, but decided to stay on to honour their teammate.

That team has my vote for Olympic heroes, whether they score a single medal or not.
