Just flashed by the Martha Stewart Show and am watching her with A Bourdain and E Ripert.

I am losing all respect for AB- Don't care for Ripert-He seems to me like he's a Franco snob who's here in America, making fun of our food.

Martha Stewart is a know all-be all nag that has to interrupt every guest on her show to make sure they know she knows a bit more than we think.

AB is becoming the media whore that fame turns people into.

He's always bagging on the food network, but will align himself with the evil witch?

    A burger post?

    http://www.slashfood.com/2010/02/26/...-food-festi%2F

Notice that Guy Fieri has bodyguards now.

    ----------

    Who invented "Umami"?

It's been promoted as the 'fifth' taste and I was wondering when people would to jump on it as a 'food fad'.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umami

I was watching a news/lifestyle report on the local TV station and a woman was doing a report on a hamburger joint that opened with the name "Umami".

    http://www.nbclosangeles.com/around-...-70574947.html

Here in El Lay you can find almost anything to eat...If it's on the Food Channel, we have already seen it here.....I find umami to be a gimmick, not a real kind of food, but more like a concept towards food and it's prep.

The word, because of it Japanese roots, kinda grinds to a halt when I hear abouts chefs tweaking it and using it to sell hamburgers.

The burger pictured in the link was the star of the news clip. I tried to find the clip on the news web site, but could not.....

The reporter, who was an Asian woman, went to Umami to taste the burger!

The chef showed her what is in it - he did not cook it in front of her, rather it was made, taken apart and reassembled at the table- You could see where the roasted tomato was smeared on the cheese part of the burger.

It's a six ounce meat patty, a 'slice' of cheese that was grated and put onto a tray and melted, then cut into a square. Roasted tomato slices, a whole mushroom and the top of the bun finish it out.

She starts to bite into it and describes it, "I can taste the meat, the mushroom, but I don't taste the umami!" The cook tells her, "The umami is in there!"

    I started to laugh.....

Is it a soy sauce or a enhancement of the food by using the sauce? And would sending an ethnic reporter make her better suited to tell us what this umami is?

I'll save the Korean BBQ taco truck for my next post!

Ole GF has bodyguards? I wonder if somebody is after him??

Umami is the most complicated thing I have ever tried to understand. Mainly because there is nothing I can use to describe it in terms I can understand. [That even sounds confusing]

Richard, are you watching the little Mexican girl that's on on Saturday morning? She sounds like Mickey Mouse. Cute as a button. She looks like a little kid but seems to have some cooking skills.

I saw this and thought it was funny.

    --------------

Dude, what is it with the Food Channel and their habit of tossing food away?

I passed by the BFC and she was making something with eggs. She separated the yolk from the whites-the whites went into the her trash bowl.

She made up some kind of excuse for tossing them.

    -------------

The Chefs of Beverly Hills really sucks. The cooks want to be on TV, the people throwing the parties want to be stars and the parties are way too stupid. What a car wreck!

The TVFN is startin the "Cooking Channel" soon..

    Doh!

Didja here about the TVFN chef busted for soliciting some bums to kill his wife?

    ------------

I watched part of the Beverly Hills/chef program. Hmmm....

    ------------

I was watching PBS and caught the America's Kitchen program.

The hosts were bbq-ingand were using a charcoal/Weber grill.

Just like Booby Flay?, the gal cooking put the lid of the BBQ on the FLOOR..I have BBQed while camping in the dirt, but I refuse to eat food that's covered with the lid of a BBQ that was just on the floor.....

The Beverly Hills program was kinda interesting, I now have it on "record series," just young professional chefs in various real situations. I do like that the segment with the "Foodies" not everything went as planned, and they had to cope with real situations, like the equipment not working, simple things like each thinking the other was responsible for something ...

Did it show whether she put the lid down upside down, maybe so the bottom of the lid didn't touch the floor?

    Hell's kitchen begins tonight.

    -------

    It "grilling week" on TVFN.

I saw a Weber grill with the lid hanging on the hook on some commercial.

    I was pleased.

    I love that show.
I was a little surprised and disappointed by this week's outcome. I think Jenny's move from red to blue will work to her advantage. She is the recruit I am pulling for.

I'm also following "Chopped" -- but the one that was on last night (chicken wing appetizers and John the firefighter/chef) was so one-sided I couldn't get into it.

Richard, did you see it last night (1/24)? What did you think of the outcome? I didn't agree with the red team recruit who was eliminated, but I did with the blue.

    Let me ask you something.

Would the program have been better if they had kept the worst chef (compared to how they badly they cooked) and worked on them for the duration? I know they picked the chefs that made the most progress, but I would have loved to have seen the worst chefs staying on an getting their chance.

It seems that they kicked the worst chefs in the teeth, then kept the ones that were doing well. Or, am I crazy?

    ----------------

Some of the shot looked like they were stage a bit and I didn't care for the 'walking up to the buidling' shots. I don't care for Jeffrey Steingarten and I noticed that as he and the women judges approached the front door he made no effort to open it for the women!

    ---------------

    On a side note?
I am disliking the Barefoot woman more and more. She's a snob. Guy Fieri....
I love the places he goes to eat, but just find his humor and the need to touch the food items very unappealing.

I just find that a person's kitchen should be treated like a underwear drawer.

    LOL, bear with me....

Should you get an invitation to look inside, it doesn't give you the right to touch everything in there.

Now, If I found undies in your knife drawer-that's another show!

We were so hoping for the "blue" finalist to win and I hoped that someone was going to offer her a cooking school scholarship - maybe (yes, I am an optimist) someone did so afterwards, or off camera?
