A few days ago, I went to the local fair with a friend. At the entrance, there are now metal detectors, and "absolutely no knives allowed". My friend carried a small pocket knife, so he had to return it to his car. No big deal, just a minor inconvenience.
Inside the fair, we visited a building with all kinds of vendors. One of them was selling kitchen knives, mostly large one, all laid out for anybody to grab one and start stabbing people if they were so inclined.
    I was stunned and disturbed.
    How is that for safety?

WHOA! How weird is that! And how dangerous, as you said.

Did you say anything to the people selling the knives, or to anyone supposedly in charge of running the fair?

My friend wrote a letter to the local news station about this. We'll see if they respond.

    Two cute TV commercials

My dad just called. There’s a really cute TV commercial for Subaru that stars a family of dogs and he wanted me to put the TV on and see it! I was already watching the news on that channel so I got to see it. There must be more than one because this one had the family on the road, which I hadn’t seen before. I can’t afford a Subaru but the commercial is so sweet! I think my dad is a dog person as well as a cat person!

There’s also one for Allstate where Dean Winters plays Mayhem as a cat and even drinks from the tap. I always laugh when I see that one!

I’ve learned that the doggie stars of the Subaru commercials are the Barkley family I saw another one this evening involving a car wash, but I won’t spoil it! Go on You Tube and look for them, because they’re so sweet!

Groundhog Day and I learned something! A neighbor county has a wildlife rehab center, and they have a groundhog. They announced that he would not be making a weather prediction today. I didn’t know this, but groundhogs hibernate. Their heart rate and breathing slow down, so it’s harmful to disturb them. The rehab checks on their groundhog regularly. I did not know they hibernate. And the zoo no longer has one so they don’t observe the day. I’m still hoping for an early spring!

  9. Drive a bit down the road from here an all the snow is melted off. but on my property i still sink up to my knees in snow.
im so on the bandwagon with you for wanting a early spring LOL

On my way to work I pass a billboard advertising cabinets and appliances. The first time I saw it, I read it as clarinets and appliances ! I'm a happy music nerd, I guess...

    Hee hee! Yup!

Yesterday morning when I got in the car to come down the mountain to work, the car thermometer read -3° F. Today is was at 1°F - and felt noticeably warmer. Odd, huh?

    The Betty White challenge

I read about this on Facebook and I can't stop thinking about it. "#BettyWhiteChallenge is exploding in popularity. It encourages everyone to donate $5 to any local or national animal shelter, rescue or agency in Betty White’s name through Jan. 17, her birthday." At first I wasn't sure it was legitimate, but what animal shelter or rescue would refuse a donation? Five bucks doesn't seem like much but if many people each donate $5, it could make a big difference. So I have a few organizations in mind. Guess I'll go for it

    Thanks,
    Elyse
