Every bank I know of will cash checks for people. They may charge a small fee of a dollar or two. The fact that she wanted to send it off to be cashed would have got my attention.
So sorry this happened to you. People can be so mean.
No matter what anyone does, someone some where will be offended some how!!!!

Is it possible this person just HOPED the check was good and asked you to cash it? I have received checks in the mail before- not real checks...but they look real. Anyhow, if I would have cashed them I would have signed up for something, or had a cash advance, or something like that....
Surely the person knew you would have had to wait for the check to clear before sending her cash for $3700, right?

This type of scam is very common on-line, especially on Craigslist.
I hope you do take this to court, though. She was never a friend to you at all if she did this. Good luck!
