I spoke to a family member who works for the Post Office (I have several), and he said to contact Connecticut's Postal Inspector. That way the charges are federal, and may be brought in Connecticut, where you are.

Glad I read this. I would have never imagined someone doing this, guess I'm just as gullible. At least now I'll be forewarned. Sorry something like this had to happen to you, leaves a bitter taste in your mouth when it's a friend.

If the check was made out to her, how could you cash it? Especially for that amount of money?

Anyone can sign a check over to someone else, so the second person can cash it, or deposit it. It's not uncommon, really.

Right, if the check is signed and it was lost, someone found it and cashed it... they are out that money... a endorsed check is the same as cash....

That is a terriable way to do someone you have befriended. I guess they think good friends are a dime a dozen and will move on to the next one.

BUT, a lot of "friends" are only friends so they can set you up to screw you over... then they move on to the next one.

Any twit can have a checking account! Believe me I know, I'm related to one! Worst case she could have taken the check to a check cashing office. Believe me they know every trick and she didn't take it there because they would know it was fraudulant. I am suspicious of any check frankly. I won't accept travelers checks because they are more often than not counterfeit.
I always think that if these people spent half the energy they spent screwing people over, they'd make a decent living. Please press charges so she doesn't ruin someone else's life.
