He is correct, it only comes in an injectable form in the USA and it is a tough injection. Linezolid is also used to treat MRSA infections and is available as an oral dosage. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linezolid) so there is something else for you to ask with him about.

The procedure is the best way to clean out the infection, but these are some options for you in case you need something else.

At least Boo is doing better. Thanx for remembering, especially considering all that you're going through right now, Gayle.

Prayers from us too.. poor little Yodie, and poor you! I hope the vet comes up with something that will work and not cause her too much distress to be given it.

    Hi Melissa,

Did you ask him about the Linezolid? It is a relatively new drug on the market and has not been used extensively in animals. But it is oral and might be easier to give than the Vancomycin shot.

Oh shoot, I did forget! I've been so busy w/my son's visit and preparing for Thanksgiving guests, cleaning the house, etc. plus my own health issues, that it totally slipped my mind. I'm going to call him right now before I forget again. Thanx so much for the reminder.

ETA: I just called and he's in surgery so I'll post if I hear back from him. I left a detailed message about Linezolid and that I want to hear his thoughts/experience w/the drug. Thank you again!
    Blessings,
    Mary

Here's hoping that you can find a solution to Yodie's yuckies and get her feeling better soon.

Well, she seems to have calmed down again although she left her favorite spot in the patio room and she's in her hiding spot in the basement again. No vomiting so I'm hopeful. A vet tech caught Dr. Lee as he was leaving and asked him about the Linezolid and he said that Yodie is not a candidate. I guess I'll have to accept that for now but I definitely will question him about it when I take her in next week.
    Blessings,
    Mary

Sorry about that. I thought it might be a viable option instead of having to give her the shot regularly...

No worries. If it weren't for you and for reminding me, I wouldn't have known it was an option. I'll talk to him about it next week. I think he wanted to get home to his family and I don't blame him. He's got health issues of his own that he's dealing with.
    Blessings,
    Mary
