Ashley Pee Troubles - Vet Wants Ashley to Start Amitriptyline - STILL PEEING

Valium worked only briefly on my pee cats. Clomicalm did the trick.

I'll check with the vet if it turns out the lab has nothing to say about it.

The vet called last Friday afternoon and spoke with my husband about Hermes with his scratching and Ashley with her peeing problem. The vet said the lab said everything was normal in Ashley's pee and they want to start her on amitriptyline. I did alot of research on it and I think she might benefit from it. It's funny though since I had her at the vets from 8:30 am -3:15 pm she hasn't gone outside the box and has seemed pretty content. Now watch since I'm typing this out she will do it sometime today or tonight.

I'm going to contact the vet to see how much the amitriptyline is, she said there are 2 forms of it, one a pill form and the other they can rub onto her ear and it gets into their system and avoids stressing them out more.

I hoping something will help her, I don't want her to be stressed. The vet said we should continue feeding her the C/D food but we went back to feeding her the California Natural food because she never had crystals before and I kinda wonder if the vet was even right about the crystals but I'm sure they were.

I'm going to also ask the vet if they will check Ashley's blood before putting her on amitriptyline because she was on valium for a few months earlier this year and I just want to make sure her overall health is ok.

The pill form must taste really nasty, because it's the only pill I've ever had trouble getting Gatsby to take. So the ear-rub form would be preferable for that reason.

Gatsby didn't take amitriptyline long enough to know how well he would have adjusted, but his personality was much different during the week he took it. He was very subdued, pretty much stayed in one place most of the time, didn't want to play or sit on my lap. He might have adjusted to it over time, though.

I don't recall the cost off the top of my head, but it's an inexpensive medication.

My Ming was lethergic when he first started on amitryptiline, but after about 3-4 weeks, he was back to normal. I will ask my vet about the cost for the compound you rub on the ear. That sounds easier on the cat. Ming got very good about taking his pill, but this sounds a lot easier. I hope everything turns out okay for Ashley.

Did you have to give Ming the pill every day?

My Ming was lethergic when he first started on amitryptiline, but after about 3-4 weeks, he was back to normal. I will ask my vet about the cost for the compound you rub on the ear. That sounds easier on the cat. Ming got very good about taking his pill, but this sounds a lot easier. I hope everything turns out okay for Ashley.

Okay, I'm gonna play devil's advocate here. Did they bother to check her urine for crystals in the very beginning and continue to check for them??? Amitriptyline, from what my vet told me when I brought Buddy in for inappropriately peeing, has not been tested on cats and will make them lethartic and grouchy. He told me they use is as a last resort only!!!

He gave me a spray bottle of Feliway and told me (after check his urine) it's a behavioral problem, not a medical problem. He explained that I should spray the Feliway and isolate him in a room. Feliway has an exzyme that only cats can smell and it calms them right down. It worked so great on Buddy and he's finally calm and knows he's not going anywhere.

Please, before trying any kinda drugs lke Amitriptyline. you'll give the Feliway spray a chance.

They checked her pee back in Feb. I believe that time I got her pee right from her, I had her locked up the whole day and she wouldn't go in the empty litter box and finally she went into the one litter box and I lifted her tail right up and got her pee in the pee cup. But at that time we were looking for the cat that was peeing out in the kitchen and they said that was Claudia b/c she had crystals then.

This year we have tested Ashley's pee quiet a bit. They first started checking her pee back in Feb or before that and then when this started up again I've ran several samples down to the vets.

I've tried the Feliway plug ins before and those didn't help. I've never tried the spray.

We have confined her to one room with only the cats that are good with her are allowed in the room the guys that chase her or harass her have to stay out.

I will look into the spray.
