Hola, hola, hola!!! Happy Cat of the Day to you, magnificent Pedro! What a stunning Tux you are, sweetheart! And what lovely photos your family submitted for your Cat of the Day nomination! The top one could pass for an oil painting; what a lovely background! But who's that impostor seated beside you in that bottom shot? One of your regular visitors? hehe He's handsome, but he's no Pedro! What a sweet and loving furkid; welcoming friend to all you are, Pedro! And so deserving of our Sunday "top cat" kudos! Hope you're enjoying an extra special, fun filled day of celebration! Please have your Mommy give you a bunch of exxx-tra cuddles and kisses for me! Congratulations to you, purrfect Pedro the Magnificent!

In agreement with Don Juan's Mom

What a beautiful kitty Pedro is - but it always makes me sad when I read about cats going outside unsupervised. Dogs aren't in the same danger as these smaller sweet animals are and I just don't get it - we don't open our doors and let the dogs run free in the streets and on other people's properties who may not like cats (many cats are poisoned or hurt by our neighbors - this is the new reality). There are also a lot of predators, especially since we are taking away their land constantly. And no one respects speed limits anymore, and even if they did, they are going too fast for a cat to survive being hit or seen. I have been a volunteer for a few shelters for many years and the number of people who come in to adopt because their cat has met with an early death, and then want to let their "new addition" out also, well we just refuse to subject the cats we saved to that early death. It has been proven that cats who go outside live many years less than those who don't - my cats don't go out unsupervised and they are just fine with that, I promise you. Most of the time they don't even want to go out because I provide them with enough to keep them busy inside. Please everyone, rethink what you are subjecting your beloved furry family to - the world is a different place and these kitties are too fragile and precious to have to fend for themselves now.
Please have your pets sterilized as soon as possible to lower, and one day hopefully eliminate, unwanted and abandoned pets. It IS our responsibility. Adopting from a shelter also helps - encouraging breeders just adds to the overpopulation.
