Hi there - I am sorry that your cat has been diagnosed with kidney failure but I can tell you that it is not necessary to only feed the bland foods that the vet sells. My beloved cat Beyli survived 4 years after being diagnosed (after many misdiagnoses) because he ate well - even according to my vet, who told me that the quality of the food I was feeding him was better than what she sells (Science Diet, etc.). I gave him Wellness, Evo, By Nature Organic, Merrick - all canned food because with this disease they really need fluids and they don't get it from dry food at all and cats never drink enough (well documented research). I also gave Beyli a Fortekor (half) (aka Benazepril) per day and an antacid (Pepcid or Famotidine). He got his SubQ fluids once every 3-4 days and this also helped his appetite (and he never got upset when I administered them - I was very lucky). You can get alot of supportive information on www.felinecrf.org and there is also a mailing list to join and get information. Remember, no matter how much you love your vet, it is a business - the people on this mailing list are from all over the world, have been through what you are going through and have different solutions that do take the love for your cat at heart.

I wish you all the best and a long life together still.
