I hate the Beatles but love the Ramones. IIRC the Ramones wanted to be like the Beatles, and wound up sparking the American Punk scene.

On a somewhat related note. Ministry wanted to be like The Depeche Mode, Ministry went a great deal off the tracks of being like The Depeche Mode after a few albums.
