    I expect the news story left out some details.

    Her reaction at seeing the owners might have provided a clue. Or maybe Dave called her "Maggie" and she responded positively.

    Also - that's one heck of a long drive for the people to make to 'get a dog', especially one that is 10 years old. Cheaper to go to the local shelter.
