    Trivia?

There are EIGHT ways for a player to get on base.

    Name them!
Okay - off the top of my head without googling. And you said player, not batter.

    1. Single
    2. Walk
    3. HBP
    4. Sent in as a pinch runner
    5. Fielder's choice
    6. Reached on error

Now I have to come up with 2 more.

    This is fun, Richard

    Dude, You Are good!

About the wording, Would I mislead you?

I heard that on the radio this morning....I know one of the two-I forgot the other.

WOW, this is a topic that has some really good answers! When we get the 8 I'll post the site with the 'answers'?

Grace did better than I would have, but how about stealing a base? Or....did you just mean how to get on base, not including how to advance on base?

Just how to get on base!

I found a site that listed as many as 23!

On the back of old BB cards they had little cartoons that explained the rules.
As kids we used sit on the curb and try to stump each other.

I saw another question about fielders catching a fly ball and there are two ways that they are not allowed,

I think I knew one.....but no one had posted an answer.

It's all too complicated for me I guess. I have trouble understanding how the commentators can instantly tell the difference between a slider, change-up or fast ball. My feeble eyes can't see that as the ball goes whizzing by. I guess I am just a blissfully ignorant fan.

Pam, I can't tell one pitch from another most of the time. When there is a game from Fenway, broadcast by NESN, it is sometimes easier. Fenway is one of 3 parks (no, I don't know the other 2), where there is a camera straight out from home plate. So when they show the pitch from there, it's easy to tell if it's a ball or strike, if it curves or slides.

The pitchers I find amazing are the ones who pitch sidearm.

#7 - catcher drops the ball after strike 3, and batter gets to 1st base before the ball does.

That situation just happened in the Red Sox - Yankee game. But the batter didn't make it to 1st before the ball.
