Wellllllll...... it's been a busy busy week at Sunny Rest!!
Last weekend was the annual cardboard boat regatta. It was a hoot! There were 10 groups that made cardboard boats and paddled them across the pool. Most looked like your typical cardboard boats with tons of duct tape, but the real amazing one, that actually won a bunch of times, was shaped like a Christmas tree, lol. They were the "Christmas in August" people, and it had garland and balls, and all kinds of stuff on it. Everyone on their team had something red or green or Christmas themed on. It was cute and funny and a riot to watch them. The team that won were the Pink Ladies, and they were sailing their boat for breast cancer awareness. It had pink feather boas stapled to the sides and all kinds of cute pink stuff to decorate it, but they also had the pink ribbons and all that on the boat.
The other fun stuff this week has been watching my boyfriend and his friends do roofing over one of the campers up there. The camper belongs to a woman named SnowWhite (yes.... that's what I said, lol), and she has been having problems with her roof leaking. So, Dave and his buddy Kenny have been building a connecting roof between two separate roofs on over her camper and addition. It's hard work, but they're doing a great job. It's been SOOOOO hot up here, the guys are just baked by the end of the day.
One of our other friends has been doing painting, and he's been our cook for our breaks. He's amazing!!!! We supply him with the food, and he makes it how he thinks it will be good. He made a roast the one night, OMG, it was to die for! It was a marinated roast, he drained it, then smothered it in olive oil and garlic, then he rolled it in COFFEE GROUNDS! Seriously! He put it over the hottest the grill could go, and seared it on each side for 5 to 10 minutes to carbonize the coffee grounds, and then took it off the high heat and let it cook for another 45 minutes until about 80% done. After that he sliced it and made it "cooked to order". Some wanted well done, while I wanted mine medium rare. It was just out of this world delicious!!!
On other fronts (and backs) I'm getting super tanned. I'm still not what you'd call golden brown, but it's more of a reddish brown because of my skin tone. I got a little too much yesterday, it was just clear skies and really hot, and I wasn't even laying out for that long. I was at the pool, laid out there for a while, then was in the pool, then decided to have a salad and go up to see how the men were doing with the roof. They decided to name themselves the Mountain Oyster Boys, Inc.. Like I should be surprised, lol. They are so goofy. I read my book most of the time, because between you and me, you can only watch men's janglies for so long before it gets boring, or you go "Yeouch!! Watch that hammer!!!"
This weekend one of Dave's friend's is coming up with his girlfriend, so it will be interesting to see how that goes. I don't know this guy at all, but it's someone Dave worked with in his laborers' union.
Gotta get back to doing some wash. Not too much to do, lol, but have some shorts and tshirts that need to be freshened up. Things get musty smelling at the cabin, or they end up smelling smoky from being at the night club and the bar. Not my favorite smell in the world (I hate the smell of cigarettes). Will let you guys know of any other fun stuff that happens in the next week!!!
