I'm so sorry that your first Mom had to surrender you, Molly; I'm sure that was hard for her. But what a lucky break for your family, finding such a treasure as you! PetSmart does great work with their adoption program, linking with rescue groups. And I'm so happy for you that you found your way into a caring rescue program, and in the end, home to your wonderful forever family! Your wise Mommy is so right, no matter ones wishes, for a mixed breed or pure breed, rescue is the way to go!
